What to do if you can't find burial location?

I have been unable to locate my GGG Grandfather's burial site. He died during the Civil War in Pine Bluff Ark, from disease. He's got to be somewhere? What do you do if you can't find a resting place for an ancestor.

Sad thing mu Great Great Grandfather and Grandmother no one knows where they are buried but they put a marker in a cemetery. Don't know why they did it that way but they did.

I see lots of stones at Rose Hills Memorial Gardens in Whittier, CA, mostly next to other family members, that simply say "In Memory of ........." You would probably have to buy a whole plot, though, to place a memorial stone.
