Also, I often put a note on my uploads noting that I have a larger version of the file and to contact me directly if the person viewing the file wants a copy of the larger version. (You need to email it directly to them because FindAGrave doesn't support such large versions.) Some people have taken me up on this offer.

Hi Carolyn,
It depends somewhat on what version of IPhoto you have, but generally you can go to 'Export File' and then choose what quality (Low, Medium, High) and what size (Small, Medium, Large or Full-Size). In my experience generally FindAGrave will accept High-Quality or Medium-Quality Medium-Sized IPhoto exports.

For downsizing photos when using a Mac, I have found Thumbsup incredibly easy to use. Find it at

You can specify the size or percentage of downsize. First, make some copies (always make copies) and practice on some to see how it works.

Have fun and thanks for working on uploading photos.

Hi everyone, I have a question. Now I'm not real tech savvy, but I'd like to upload the pictures I have. Everytime I try FindAGrave tells me the file is too large. I use a Mac and IPhoto. Does anyone know how to resize the file so I can upload them? I have hundreds and hundreds of photos of stones as well as people. Gosh, maybe thousands! So how can I do it the easiest? Any clue? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

@Arthur Scott Kaye,
It is really a hit or miss proposition when doing volunteer look-ups. Some cemeteries won't do any unless you are actually related, or get a waiver from direct relatives. Many cemeteries have only handwritten records that must be searched manually. I have one cemetery with many of my direct relatives buried there and stones missing for some. When I inquired from the church about burial records, I received a handwritten letter from a kind 85 year old woman; unfortunately it did not include several records on relatives I know are buried there from death certificates. My advice, do what you can, and feel comfortable with; every little bit helps. Be prepared to have more failures than successes. But every completed look-up makes it worth it!!!

Christy,
Now you have my curiosity , who is the family you were referring too.
I suggested to the secretary of the city judge for kids in trouble here, that they go to cemetery and pull stickers- maybe they might even learn something while they are there!

We have had good luck with scouting projects, both as groups and individual scouts wanting Eagle achievement doing volunteer work to create directories and cleanups. They need lots of help. But that is what scouting is about! Sometimes they really go the second mile and connect relationships and other data by contacting living family members for help. These kids are computer smart and the data they compile can be expanded as more knowledge is gained. Better than the cemetery vandals (teens running and partying last Halloween) that destroyed lots of old stones in one cemetery. Thank goodness, pictures had been taken and info recorded. Sure hope someone finds the culprits though! They need to be held accountable to the community and families of the deceased.
Hello Cynthia in Norton! My granddaughter has family in the area. We need to bring her to visit them, soon I hope!
