Hello, on the most part, Find A Grave has been helpful but there are so people that I know are buried at certain graveyards and yet their information does not come up on the screen in spite of having all the needed information. Who enters names etc on Find A Graves? thanks, AM
One of the things you can do is sponsor the Memorial, they are suppose to transfer the Memorial to you if you sponsor it. If that does not work then you can add your own Memorial for that person I know they don't what dups But if you have Better Source's why not? Also they should be required to list the source's of all information on a Memorial, even if it's just my Aunt told me this.
I know what you mean as I have told some of my husband's relatives to go to Findagrave site to see the headstones of their relatives only to find they have been deleted or they have the wrong information and they tried to have it corrected but the person who posted it originally refused to change it. Said it was the correct information. They didn't even know the person, got the name from a book listing those buried in the cemetery. The cousin had the birth, wedding and death certificate along with the baptism giving the same date and was told it wasn't going to be changed or ownership transferred. They wanted the big numbers by their name.
Betty Jo, I had the same problem with people not putting corrections in, you need to contact the Findagrave.com admin using edit@Findagrave.com You do have to wait 30 days after your submission before they will do anything. everytime I have used edit they have made the corrections, I just had someone go and delete some of my relatives Memorial's becuase they didn't want to manage them anymore, very bad news as I was using them as sources in my tree!
Been having problems with several people who posted names with just the years that they took from a local genealogy club book. Some of these are my relatives that I would like to have their full names, dates of birth, death and places of birth and death along with the links to their parents or spouses. I have sent emails to them but they refuse to make the corrections or transfer them to me. Any suggestions? They say they are not interested in large numbers of entries but it looks like they are because everytime I search for a relative in this cemetery they are already listed with their name. The only thing I can do is post a picture. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Next step I guess is to contact FindaGrave themselves and see if they can help.
Regarding distances for photo requests, there is way to change it, but I can't for the life of me find it. My 'work around' was to discontinue receiving the request mailings, then when I go out, I get the list from the cemetery page or click my zip code on my 'contributor tools' page. The mailings go out to a random few of the photo volunteers so how many you receive is based on how many requests and how many volunteers there are. Anyone can post requested photos whether they are getting the emails or not.
So you know if Schuylkill County PA has a Grave Preservation Associaion like Berks County?
@Leonard - I understand and agree with your beliefs about courtesy. I always thank folks for photos taken for me (as far as I know). I expect to receive thanks but know that it won't always happen. I also agree with others that I do this for my enjoyment and furthering the cause above all.
I am really sorry I opened this can of worms. I will continue to take photos and it is not linked to any need I have for people to feel grateful to me. I have been in love with cemeteries for decades. I also love history and people and their graves are history.
I believe in courtesy and am offended if it is not shown me. I guess that is my human flaw. I was told by someone years ago that people don't appreciate what they don't pay for. Some truth in that I think.
