Leonard, I have quite a few to send thanks for my efforts
Giving should always occur without expectation of something in return....even a "thank you." If you're upsetting yourself because someone doesn't thank you, you're not giving for the right reasons. Yes, it's inconsiderate not to thank people for doing something for you, but I think it's just as inconsiderate to point out that you haven't been thanked for doing something nice. It then becomes about notoriety, not giving.
I am wondering what the experience of others is regarding thank yous from people who request photos. It is my experience that very few say thanks when their photo requests are fulfilled.
I took my first volunteer photographs just last week. I have been a member of Findagrave for years!! Very rewarding , and can't wait to search for more tomorrow.
I live in southwest Nebraska and get requests for cemeteries almost 100 miles away. I must be the only photo volunteer in this area. Anyway, I feel no obligation to do any of these requests, though I generally do all the local ones.
Hey Betty, I just went into my FAG profile to see if I could edit the distance for my volunteer photo taking - there is no way to do that. I would try one of two things. Try to uncheck the box next to "I would like to be a photo volunteer" and click on "Save Changes." Then go back and check the box again and I think it asks the distance you wish to travel.
Otherwise, I would simply add a statement to your profile [bio] stating that you can only take photos at [your closest] cemetery. There doesn't seem to be a limit on how much information you can have in the bio. I have see a couple of them that are very, very long.
Good luck.
i do several cemeteries. to make it worth my while, as far as gas prices go, i have memory cards that go in my digital camera, i can take up to 3,000 pictures if i want in one trip to the cemetery
Bob, I need to change that I am only able to do one cemetery in my area. The one closest to my house. There are six in our area and five of them are over two miles from my house and spread out. Therefore, making it harder to travel with gas prices almost $4.00 in our area. I can walk to the one I still want to do.
I take photographs for Find A Grave at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA, and other local smaller cemeteries. Anyone else here in this area? I have been a member of the Whittier Area Genealogical Society for 31 years.
When you enter a new memorial a number is assigned and I assume these are consecutive numbers. The last memorial I entered today was numbered 86723011, hence 86 million plus if the first memorial was number 1.
