I I have been trying to find out where my great-great-grandfather Albert Galetine Gatton came from without any luck.  Albert Galetine was born about 1819 in Ohio.  It is believed he had Native American ancestry.  It is possible that he was some relation to the William Benjamin Gatton family that lived in Richland Co., Ohio, with one of the sons named Galentine.  Albert enlisted in the Union Army on the same day (22 July 1862) and at the same place as Isaac Gatton.  Unfortunately Albert died of pneumonia on 13 January 1863 in Corinth, Miss., where he was buried as an unknown, so there was no death certificate.

Albert married his second wife Emeline Berryman 10 April 1852  at Fort Amanda, Auglaize Co., Ohio, where the Berryman family farm was.  All four of their children were born on the farm.

  1. Sarah Jane Gatton, born 1853
  2. Cornelia Gatton, born 1855
  3. Margaret Gatton, born 1857
  4. Albert Gatton, born 1859

Emeline applied for and was granted a pension, but she stopped picking it up after October 1876.  I've been unable to find out what happened to her.
