A Scotch DUNMIRE arrived in U.S. in late 1700's.Probably landed Castle Rock or Philadelphia. Men worked in iron furnace business which was switching to coal in Brittain so charcoal burners were not needed but greatly sought out in emerging U.S. iron industry. Charcoal burners were talented and sought after but led isolated lives 3/4 of the year in forests. Family lived in company housing. Didn't buy land or have possessions so not appear in tax lists or even census as out in woods during census registration..

First factual location in Carlisle, Pa. in 1830 working at Boiling Springs Furnace. Next in 1851 in Bloomery Furnace, Hampshire County, Virginia.

Seeking ties with other Scottish DUNMIRE's ( certainly spelled many ways).
