Suz, Glad to hear someone else spoke up on this subject.  Thanks, to Sally whom I agree with totally.  I'm from Massachusetts and from old NE stock.  I've been doing genealogy since I was 15 due to my grandfather's interest in the subject.  He spent many years at it and I'd say he was a "professional."  He didn't have any degrees or even a certificate in the subject but his years of dedicated research gives him that status, I say.  I was lucky to have him pass on all his hard work to me.  I commend you for pursuing genealogy despite all you have been through.  More power to you!

Buckeye!  Even more reason to remain listed as an advanced researcher!  We are currently in Delaware, but my hubby is from Geauga County, Ohio and researches Hocking County for the Carey family.  I am glad to see you have such a positive attitude--that makes breaking down the brick walls less frustrating!

WOW! Thanks for your kind thoughts, ladies! By the way, SJ are my initials. It is Susan Jane. I mostly go by Suz or Buckeye. I am a Deaf genealogist and also brain tumors and stroke slowed me down a while! We Deaf can't usually join groups, so I really LOVE the Genealogy Wise!! I am in western Oregon, but am an Ohio native. Where are y'all?

I agree with Sarah.  50 years of genealogical research tells me you have earned and deserve the advanced status.  Do not change it.  You have probably forgotten a lot of what we are still learning!

Well, S. J. whoever told you that I totally disagree.  I don't care how much you may "know," you never stop learning.  I would leave your status as it is.  How can one determine "how much you really know" anyway?  I say in 50 years you probably have learned a lot and I'd keep your "advanced" setting right where it is.  Even a certified genealogist never stops learning.  I wouldn't apologize for anything.  If you feel you are advanced; then keep it that way.  It's your business, period and not what someone else might tell you.

I have put the wrong status for me. I have put advanced because I have been working a looooong time on my genealogy, but someone told me it is now how long you have been working, it is how much you know about what you are doing. Well, scratch "advance" for me! While I have been working hard for almost 50 years, there is so much more I need to learn and know. I don't know the titles under advance, but I want to change mine for more realistic. My apology misunderstanding. So now how can I straighten it out?

Thanks Sally - I didn't notice that speaker icon!

Re. sound in chat room--there is a speaker icon next to the smiley face that you can click on and adjust volume.  But I generally just turn my sound off at the computer.
