I posted this in another forum, but have been asked to repost it here. Someone was asking about the copyright terms. [Note: IANAL - I am not a lawyer]

Here are the GenealogyWise Terms. Under " Your Content and Licenses to Your Content"

"Ning does not claim any ownership rights in Your Content. After posting Your Content, you continue to retain ownership of Your Content, and you continue to have the right to use and license Your Content in any way you choose."

It says "Ning" instead of GenealogyWise, since the website is really http://genealogywise.ning.com/. The servers you are uploading your content to are part of Ning.

Another important paragraph:

You hereby grant Ning, during the course of your usage of the Ning Platform, a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, sublicenseable and transferable right and license to (i) use, reproduce, create derivative works of, distribute, publicly perform and publicly display Your Content (a) for the sole purpose of operating and making Your Content available on the Ning Platform and in all current and future media in which the Ning Platform may now or hereafter be distributed or transmitted or (b) for our internal business purposes; [Emphasis mine]

Many will misread this and be reminded of the Facebook ToS that created the uproar a few months back. But the emphasized sentence is crucial. They aren't allowed by their terms to use your content for any purpose except making it available on the Ning platform. I guess theoretically they'd have the right to put your content on a different Ning social network. I don't think that's their intent though.
