Most of the places you can post things in a
Ning social network (like GW), you will be provided with a button bar that has basic formatting options on it.
Get familiar with these and put them to use; but don't become some over-formatting fiend that makes their post hard to read.
The Basic Formatting Buttons
- Bold
- Italics
- Underline
Strikeout
- Insert Hyperlink
- Insert Picture
To use the first five, type your text first, then highlight the text you want to change the formatting on, then click the button for the desired format. You will see HTML formatting tags added to either side of your selected text. The actual text you are viewing will not change format; the HTML formatting tags will be applied once you submit the post.
When using the Insert Link button it will pop-up a window prompting you for the link you would like to use. Copy this link before you click the button, then just paste it into the pop-up window.
When using the Insert Picture option, start by placing your cursor at the location you want to insert the picture within your text. Then click the button, you will get a pop-up prompting you to either browse your local computer for a picture or to paste in the link to a location online. Once you've either chosen a picture from your computer or pasted in a link, click OK. You'll now notice a long string of HTML code injected into your post; don't make any changes to that string of code (unless you're familiar with editing it). As with formatting, you'll not see the picture show up in your text, but the HTML code will make it show up after you have submitted your post.
Think you're ready for
advanced formatting?

I am not a Ning expert. I'm a tech-head who has worked in IT for over 10 years; and I have some experience on another Ning network. This is not an official statement from the GW staff; just some friendly tips for my fellow GW users. Feel free to message me if you have questions, comments, or suggestions for other topics. ~Johnny
