Hi Everyone,
I am researching my German ancestors who came to
Adelaide Australia in 1848.
The family story about their arrival
is that they were in love in Germany but were not allowed to marry.
They both chose to leave Germany and coincidentally ended up in
Adelaide. They remet each other there and married in 1849.
The
information I have on them so far from the documents I have obtained are
as follows:
Ferdinand August Pietsch (known as August) born
about 1822. Arrived on the Leontine in 1849.
Johanna Eleanora
Hell, Hall, Hull or Held, born about 1827. Appears to have arrived on
the Victoria in Nov 1848. Passenger list shows her origin location as
Silesia. Her surname is spelt Held.
Johanna and August married
in Gawler Town South Australia on 3 October 1849. His occupation on the
marriage certificate is joiner and hers is maid servant. Her surname
is spelt Hell on this document. The married under Lutheran services and
one of their witnesses was a Thomas Hall, not sure if he is any
relation to Johanna or not.
Ferdinand died on 24 Nov 1885 at
Muckleford Victoria Australia. He profession is carpenter and farmer.
On the death certificate his father is listed as Johan Godfred Pietsch a
cloth manufacturer of Germany and his mother is listed as Anna Rosina
Pietsch formerly Walter. He was buried under Lutheran services
(although in the Anglican section of the cemetery). His birth place is
hard to read but looks like Apear Dasf or Dorf Germany. The first
letter of the first word may be a N or H or A.
Another researcher
found Anna Rosina's death listing on 14 Jun 1887 at
North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. I haven't seen any
documents yet. She was apparently born about 1802.
On the birth
entry of one of the daughters of Johanna and August, August is listed as
being born in Grinberg. Johanna is listed as having the maiden name
Hill and being born in Howstorf. On another daughters birth certificate
Johannas maiden name is listed as Hall.
I have had no luck find
the family any further back. If anyone is familiar with any of these
names, or can find any other information or indications related to the
original story I was told I would love to hear from you.
Thanks
Debby
