Hi Wanda Kay Newton Gray! What is your source for "1885" immigration? For, the 1900 Hamilton County, Ohio Census shows a John (b 1877) , William (1879) & Theresa (1882; siblings living together, but not in their parents' household) claim to have been born in Ohio. Another source confirms--but of course, does not prove--the same.

Are these the right ones? Of course, this census data provided & written down may or may not be true.

We have other findings that claim their father was born in another country besides Germany.

The source was my father, son of Theresa. She was approximately 3 years old when they immigrated. It is possible John was born other than the Black Forest area but that is where they last lived before immigrating to US. I know that my grandmother (Theresa) spoke fluent German and spoke English with a heavy German accent. She taught the children some German also. The 1900 Hamilton County Ohio Census, Springfield Township ED314pg18A 346-347 shows John Wenk, 22, 6/1887 telegraph operator OhGerGer; William (brother) 20, 8/1879 gardner OhGerGer and Theresa (sister) 7/1882 at school OhGerGer. Either the information saying my grandmother was born in Ohio is wrong or my father was lied to.
