I am researching my great-grandmother Anna Louise Emma Reising/Reissing
*Sep 3 1877 Tangermuende, Saxony, Anhalt, Germany
+Feb 9 1955 Neumuenster, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
married Nov 12 1899 Tangermuende to Heinrich August Julius Koester
I am looking for an 1880 census for Tangermuende.
Thank you Catherine. That's just what I need.
To Barbara Holz Sullivan--list of churches in and near Elsenfeld starts with the Catholic Churches, followed by the Protestant--
http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&js=n&...
If that link doesn't work, try putting the link for the untranslated site, http://www.elsenfeld.de/gesundheitsozia/kirchen/ , into google translate and set from English to German. The translated version of the URL will look just the same as on the German side, but if you click on the link on the English side, it will take you to the translated version.
Thank you, Marianne. I have seen that wikipedia page about Fanconia. I know the town Louis Fischer was born in: Elsenfeld. I would like to learn the name of the protestant parishes in that area. I have searched the FHL catalog for Bayern, Unterfranken, and Miltenberg without success. Elsenfeld is not listed as such in their catalog.
To Barbara Holz Sullivan, here is info on Elsenfeld from wikipedia, which says the area was "overwhelminlgly Catholic". You probably will have to search neighborhing towns that have Evangelische (Protestant) churches instead.
To Barbara Holz Sullivan, if you look at this wikipedia article about Unterfranken, you will see many cities that are in it. That is what you need to do a search of the Family Search microfilms. Try looking at U.S. records to find the correct city (U.S. church records often listed the city of origin).
I found out my great great grandfather Joseph (Backus) Backes was born in Prussia and so was his mother and Father , but not sure which part of Prussia yet.
I recently learned that my great, great grandfather, Louis Fischer, was born in Elsenfeld in Unterfranken, Bayern. There does not seem to be many films for that area on FamilySearch. He was born on 8 September 1837 and was not Catholic. Can anyone tell me the name of the Protestant churches near his birthplace or the correct archives to write to? Thank you.
Annas birth year was not given to me. I have no idea. I put in high year to see what I could find. I have nothing on her birth or dod. It was my guess, sorry
If Anna was born in 1732, and Heinrich Christoph is supposedly her son, she would have been 83 at his birth - not possible. Hans Christoph Carstens could have been anywhere from 20 to 60 when Heinrich was born, making his birth year range about 1755 to 1795.
