Carter family of Chipping Campden -- Hope/Hopp/Hop family of Snowshill

Hi,
My connection to Gloucestershire is via my great grandfather, Richard Hope (1873 - 1944). His parents were Samuel (c1828 Snowshill - 1883 Chipping Campden) and Elizabeth Hope (nee Carter). At this moment in time I have no idea whatsoever who Samuel's parents were. On Samuel and Elizabeth's marriage certificate where Samuel's father's name should be it just says "Dead" but no actual name, maybe this means he was illigitimate? Elizabeth's parents were Richard (1805-1872) and Hannah Carter (nee Smith). Richard's parents were John (c1770) and Elizabeth Carter (nee Adams). All the ancesters I have found so far on the Carter side seem to have been born and lived in Chipping Campden. Really interested in any information on the Carter's but would love to find out where Samuel Hop/Hopp/Hope originated from and who his parents/siblings were. Any help or direction would be much appreciated.
