Jefferson Davis Goen

I have been trying to prove kinship with this man for years. He was born mid 1850's in prob. GA or perhaps AL. In 1880 Brazos Co, TX Federal census, he listed as living in the household of William R. Goen. He is listed as "cousin." Will came to TX with his family (Hugh Goen) in the late 1860's (have letter written to Will's sister Margaret "Maggie" dated Dec 1869). Will's son Clyde Goen called him his "cousin Jeff." 1880, Jeff married Missouri Anne Wyatt and they had several children. Jeff died in Bryan, Brazos Co, TX in the 1930's. If anyone knows anything tangible that relates him to Will, I would appreciate it. I suspect his Dad and Hugh Goen were brothers, but can find no evidence of it.
