My grandmother was Mary Harrington. I believe her mother was Ellen possibly nee Calnan. She lived near the Old Head of Kinsale in an area known in Griffith's Valuation (1850s) as Ringrone. I have learned that the Harrington name is very common in the SW of Cork. I believe my grandmother's family had their births registered in Castletownberehaven on the Beara Peninsula but from what I can gather this was the regional centre for Catholic records. I may be wrong but I don't know that they necessarily ever lived there. I went back and found a living relative - Eileen Desmond - a first cousin of my dad's.They never met as my grandmother Mary went with her Irish husband JAmes Bradley to live in England 20 years before she was born. Elieen's father was Michael Harrington. She became a Member of Parliament after her husband died (he was also in politics) but I only found this out after her death when some people I had met there sent me the newspaper cuttings about her. She was alovely lady and I wish I had had enough time to ask more questions..
Cheers Mary
