Where to Post

I'm trying to organize things a bit so I've made threads in the Discussion Forum for each county. If you know where the people you are researching lived, please post your queries, information, etc. in the appropriate thread/county. If you don't know where in Indiana the people you are researching lived or if they lived in multiple counties, go ahead and post to the Comment Wall below. Also, if you feel your post is urgent or you want it to be viewed by the whole group, post to the Comment Wall. As always, everyone is also still welcome to start their own discussion threads.

Since Genealogy Wise doesn't allow the option of displaying ALL Discussion Forum threads, some won't appear below. If you don't see the county or discussion that you are looking for below, click on "View All" in the bottom right of the Discussion Forum and you should be able to
find it there. Thanks!

Due to spamming fears, I am (for the time being at least) disabling the option of messaging the whole group. If you have a message you would like passed on to the whole group, get in touch with me. If you receive a spam message in your Genealogy Wise inbox along the lines of "Win a Cruise" please get in touch with me right away and I will take care of it. Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

I've been to the museum's library, and you're correct about the helpfulness of the people there. Last year, I took a life's work of genealogy there for a dear friend/double-cousin who passed away. Another cousin has something to do with the Museum, can't remember exactly what, but he's very active in genealogy!

My link to Indiana is from the SHEERN branch of my family. They lived in St. Mary of the Woods, Sugar Creek Township, Vigo County. Collateral family names: LESEURE, HOLLAND, DERMODY, ALVEY, CURLY, REGAN, RICE, REED.

All of these families were Catholics and lived in the area from 1820 to 1900.

Joy, a couple of weeks ago, I visited the Johnson County Historical Museum's genealogy room in Franklin and it was wonderful. The staff was very helpful! If you haven't been there, I highly recommend it! Parts of my family currently live in Franklin, but my line only arrived there in 1938. Smith and Bennett.

Hi, I'm a native Hoosier, with deep family roots in Johnson Co. Have ancestors mainly in the southern part of the state, but have found some in other areas of the state, too. Early settlers include Hensley, Sturgeon, Tharp, & Clark. Have family in Kosciusko and Wabash counties.

Hi, My mom was born in Jeffersonville, Clark County. Also have relatives from Floyd, Washington, Warrick Counties. Searching Priddy, Whittinghill, Curtis, Sample, McClellan, and Gray from Indiana. I am eligible to be an Indiana Pioneer because of Peter Whittinghill who went to Warrick County in 1813.

The Vevay newspaper indexes are fascinating. I don't think that I have any ancestors from that area, but I will keep this site in mind if I do find any.

Now — if only someone would give me access to the older North Manchester papers!
