Where to Post

I'm trying to organize things a bit so I've made threads in the Discussion Forum for each county. If you know where the people you are researching lived, please post your queries, information, etc. in the appropriate thread/county. If you don't know where in Indiana the people you are researching lived or if they lived in multiple counties, go ahead and post to the Comment Wall below. Also, if you feel your post is urgent or you want it to be viewed by the whole group, post to the Comment Wall. As always, everyone is also still welcome to start their own discussion threads.

Since Genealogy Wise doesn't allow the option of displaying ALL Discussion Forum threads, some won't appear below. If you don't see the county or discussion that you are looking for below, click on "View All" in the bottom right of the Discussion Forum and you should be able to
find it there. Thanks!

Due to spamming fears, I am (for the time being at least) disabling the option of messaging the whole group. If you have a message you would like passed on to the whole group, get in touch with me. If you receive a spam message in your Genealogy Wise inbox along the lines of "Win a Cruise" please get in touch with me right away and I will take care of it. Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Daniel, Do you have any idea about when he was born? That would help a lot.

Jodi, I am wondering if you could check the names Jacob and George W. Gabbert/Gabert/Gebhart in your book on the 'Pioneers of Indiana' for me? They were probably in Bartholomew, Indiana from 1821 - 1860. Thank you for your time.

I have books that may assist those looking for ancestor information in Indianapolis, Marion County and Dearborn County. First of all, there are two Indianapolis Catholic parish histories, both written by Prof. James Divita: Sacred Heart and St. Mary's. They are both indexed. I also have two family histories of Dearborn County residents, both written by Mary Cathryn Zimmer: "The Leppert Familly, 1836-1899" and "Louis M. Risch Family and Ancestors" covering the history of the family in Germany and Indiana from 1708 - 1934. Some of the names in these histories are Leppert, Risch, Karrer, Kuhn, Sebastiani, Albrecht, Winter. There are names in the counties surrounding Dearborn also. These reference books pertain to my own family research. I would be happy to do lookups or provide further information on the books if you believe you may have connections.

I have a copy of the book Pioneer Ancestors of Members of the Society of Indiana Pioneers compiled by Ruth Dorrel, 1983. Information about this society can be found at The book is an index of ancestors that have been proven to be Indiana residents by certain dates (vary slightly by county mostly between 1825-1840). The index lists Name, Birthplace, Birthdate, Indiana County Settled, Date Settled and Previous Residence. There are also footnotes for people of note such as miltary service, some clergy service and service to the state of Indiana -postmasters, State Legislators, etc.
I would be happy to look-up an ancestor or 2!

I think the Louis Hultz on 24 Jun 1974 is actually Louise Hultz. Sorry I haven't had a chance to get back to the library, Linda! Which paper is the 1931 obit from? I would think you could call them and they might make a copy for you or I'd be happy to copy it next time I'm there (hopefully Saturday but I'm not certain on that one). That does remind me that I need to email you scans of the other documents though!
