Where to Post

I'm trying to organize things a bit so I've made threads in the Discussion Forum for each county. If you know where the people you are researching lived, please post your queries, information, etc. in the appropriate thread/county. If you don't know where in Indiana the people you are researching lived or if they lived in multiple counties, go ahead and post to the Comment Wall below. Also, if you feel your post is urgent or you want it to be viewed by the whole group, post to the Comment Wall. As always, everyone is also still welcome to start their own discussion threads.

Since Genealogy Wise doesn't allow the option of displaying ALL Discussion Forum threads, some won't appear below. If you don't see the county or discussion that you are looking for below, click on "View All" in the bottom right of the Discussion Forum and you should be able to
find it there. Thanks!

Due to spamming fears, I am (for the time being at least) disabling the option of messaging the whole group. If you have a message you would like passed on to the whole group, get in touch with me. If you receive a spam message in your Genealogy Wise inbox along the lines of "Win a Cruise" please get in touch with me right away and I will take care of it. Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

I grew up in Zionsville, Boone Co. My Bland ancestors settled there in the late 1800's.

Not for births, marriages, or deaths, if that is what you're looking for. IGS volunteers are working on a statewide marriage index. You will find a pre-1850 marriage index at the Indiana State Library web site. There is a published index of statewide wills going up to, I think, 1880, but AFAIK that would be only in actual libraries, not on line. Most such resources, if they exist, are county by county; WPA indexes, for instance, but they are usually in print and not done for all counties.

Question: Does Indiana have an online, state sponsored, digital archive or online index? I know some states have them.

I am researching Friedrich Harney (AKA: Fredrick Harney, Friedrick Harney, Fredrich Harney). He was born in 1846 in Germany/Austria. I believe that he might have immigrated to the U.S. in the 1870s. He married Margaret Becker Steinmetz (Becker was her maiden name, Steinmetz was the name she got from her first husband). He lived in Hobart, Lake County, Indiana. He died in 1911.

I am trying to find his original immigration record to the U.S. (I have found him traveling to Germany and back in the 1890s).

According to my mom (and various other family members), he was married twice. I have been unsuccessful in finding his second marriage.

Any help would be appreciated.

There are a couple Hoosiers I am trying to research. My husbands side of the family is Ogle, his grandfather was Ralph M Ogle and Ralphs father was Fred Ogle. Fred Ogle went to the Indiana state prison in the early 1900's and died in 1936 while in prison. I have conflicting information as to who his parents were. I have possibly John & Jennie Ogle or Levi & Francis Ogle. I am unsure which parents are correct which leaves me in a bind to continue backwards on the family line. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

One side of family are Addlemans, Browns from Wayne County and another side is Reeves, Downey from Posey and Gibson County. Need help getting some details from both counties (without driving there myself, lol)

Linda, I was born and raised in Crawfordsville. The new library has an amazing local history room if you need something looked up. I go to C'ville about every other weekend (and will be going there tomorrow) if you need anything in particular looked up!
