I am in California, but am contacting the Genealogical Society tomorrow. Our public library here has a huge genealogical section, time to visit again now that I know what I am looking for. Thank you again for your help
I have family in Linn, Cedar, Muscatine, Scott counties. My father and his siblings were born and raised in a small town in Muscatine County. Since there were 13 of them, they were a good portion of the population at the time....

Thanks again!

Barbara,
Linn County has a genealogical society. They might do a search and copy a census image for you for a small fee. The Iowa Genealogical Society probably has copies of the census and they will do research for you for $15/hr if you are a member or $25 if not which includes copies and postage. What about the library in the area? They also do searches usually for a small fee. It also looks like the Family History Library has the Linn County 1895 Census on film which you could rent if you are close to a Family History Center to view it.

My ancestors are mostly in Muscatine and Louisa counties. I have found both county sites on the IAGenWeb pages to have good information and very helpful if I asked the question.

Good luck!

Jean, I found two of the siblings in the 1895 Iowa State Census, thank you so much. Now I want to find an image of the Census page, what I found was just a record, so I still don't know who they were living with, but at least I know where. Again, thank you (doing a "aha dance" haha)

Jean, thanks for the websites, will check them out. Am trying to find out what happened to my grandfather and his siblings after their mother died. The oldest was 19, the youngest about 7. Their mother died in 1889, and with no 1890 Census, thought the 1895 Iowa Census would give me some kind of clue. Thanks again

Barbara,
Although the following sources are not a direct link to the census online, I would suggest trying http://iagenweb.org/linn/ That is Linn county's website which is part of the Iowa Gen Web project. It doesn't look like they have the census on their website, but if you placed a query there, someone might do a lookup for you.

Another source that has been helpful for me is the Iowa rootweb mailing list. http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/usa/IA/misc.html#IOWA then choose what you would like to subscribe to and how often you receive emails. I noticed there is on list there that is willing to do a census lookup. I have not subscribed to that list so I don't know how active it is. I have found people very helpful on the general Iowa mailing list.

Any idea where I could find the 1895 Iowa State Census for Linn County online? Ancestry and Rootsweb have it but not for Linn County. Thanks

Hi, I am looking for information on Patrick Caufield and Margaret his wife. They had several children born in Clare, Webster Co., IA: Lauretta, George Francis, Mae, James, etc. Any information is most appreciated.

Thanks, Pete

Thank you. I have the 1885 Census for the family, but have not been able to find an 1895 Census yet. But now that I know it exists, will keep looking. Thanks again, Jodi

Barbara - try the Iowa State Census Collection. They were done every 10 years but on the odd years, 1875, 1885, 1895, etc. You might be able to find them in 1895. Good lucky!

My great grandmother died in Linn County, Iowa in 1889 leaving 6 children, the oldest being about 19 and the youngest about 7. My great grandfather was either dead or gone to parts unknown by then. Can anyone suggest where to look to find out what happened to the children? Would Iowa let the oldest raise the younger ones? Since there is no 1890 Census, where do I look? Thank you for any help or suggestions......
