I have two ancestors who went through the naturalization process in Iowa. Where do I need look in order to track down their naturalization records? Is there a state archives in Des Moines? I appreciate any advice you can offer. Thank you.

Amber, thank you for your reply.
No, my great-grandfather James Robinson probably died in Wisconsin, sometime after 1900. His family was in Shawano, Wisconsin, in 1895. I just recently found that census.
Besides Alice, born in 1886, there were Florence and Edwin (and I'm not even sure Edwin was the right name, considering how little we know of my mother's family) who were older than Alice, maybe two and four years. All we know of them is a picture with their name on the back. We had no idea when the picture was taken until I found out when Alice was born. It was taken in Wisconsin, probably around 1890, so I'd say they had left Iowa by then. I just don't have any idea when they got to Iowa or how long they stayed, or if they lived anywhere else besides Ionia during the period between 1880 and 1890.
I know this is going to be difficult. Birth records were not always kept carefully that early, I think. And the censuses are just a snapshot, several years apart. So don't spend too much time on your research. But I would greatly appreciate it if you or your friend could find any mention of a James Robinson in the area.
Thank you.

There is only one Ionia in Iowa. It is a VERY small town. It is in Chickasaw County about 10 miles from New Hampton which is the county seat. (Also were I live) I have a contact with the local Genealogical Society. I will see what she says. I work an hour south of town and don't get a chance to get into the county records office. I will try and do some general research and see what I can find. Do you know if he passed away living here?

I apologize for my previous post, I was confused and the person I REALLY am looking for in Iowa is John Bastin who died in 1904 in Cerro Gordo County.

In case anyone wants a look up I have Index of Early Deaths in Appanoose County Iowa 1880-1903 and Appanoose County Cemetery Index. They didn't have what I was looking for but I will be happy to do look ups in these volumes for others.

I could spend a few months in Iowa researching ancestors. My Clark's showed up a little before statehood. I have Clark's (George, Wil(t)fong et al, Curtis), Phillip's (Still), Hosier's (Wright), Rees(e) (Haworth), Shearer [including a cemetery] (Tyler, Reece/Rees, Utter). My wife has Pike's (Claypool), Spa(u)lding's (Crawford) and Go(e)w(e)y's [including a cemetery] (Filmore, Judson), Grove (Story), Phelps (Priest). This is just the ones that were born or buried in IA. There are many who just passed through including other lines not even related to these. So, they were all over the place. Prominent counties are Kossuth, Keokuk, Delaware, Polk, Buchanan, Page, Washington, Linn, Clayton...
