My DONNELLY'S are from WATERFORD in IRELAND. My Grandmother MARY ELLEN DONNELLY born 1875 married JAMES HIGGINS in Prescot Lancashire England in 1902.
Her father was WILLIAM DONNELLY a Seaman born 1850 in Waterford and died in Waterford in 1910.
Her mother was FANNY HEARNE born 1847 in Waterford and died in Waterford in 1884.
Mary Ellen had a brother JEFFREY DONNELLY was also a Seaman (Captain) born 1879 in Waterford and died in 1944.
She also had a sister FANNY DONNELLY who married THOMAS MURPHY in Prescot Lancashire England in 1901.
Any connection?
Hi Lynda
What was his wifes name, and his childrens names in the right order, it was usual for irish families to call 1st son after his father 1st daughter after his mother. Would make it easier to find his parents, town etc.

Hi Monica,
Cornelius' wife was Jane Conniff. She was listed also as being born in Ireland but seemed to have died young. She seems to have disappeared from the records and he lived with a Cavanaugh family and was listed as a laborer even at an older age. It's possible he was somehow related to them. Cornelius & Jane had at least 2 sons. My grandfather, Frank, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1851. Patrick was born in Illinois in 1867. They may have had an older child, James born in Massachusetts in 1849, although the father's first name was listed as Conner rather than Cornelius.
My parents visited Ireland and I remember that they found some church records, but by the time I was interested my mother had memory problems. Very frustrating.
Hi Colette
Have found a Jannam Cunniff (names in latin at the time so assuming thats Jane) christened 3 Nov 1844 Kilteeven, County Roscommon , Ireland. Parents Patrick Cunniff and Mary Gerahty.
If I find anything else will get back to you.

Hi Colette
Have just found the 1850 US federal census. Cornelius donell age 27 born abt 1823 living in Wauwatosa, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with a group of men including John Cuniff age 23 & Thomas Cuniff age 18. all born in Ireland.
Monica
Thanks again. Yes, I have this one. If you notice, a page or so later in the same census and at the same address is a Jane Donelly with a boy one year old born in Massachusetts. I have a copy of the birth certificate I mentioned in my first post, but there is no mention of him later and wondered if he died young. My Dad never mentioned an uncle older than his father, but he was the youngest of 9 so may not have heard much about him.
Thanks. This is new. Is this something I can access via the Internet? I have a full membership to Ancestry.com. The time seems about right, although Cornelius was probably born about 1820 according to all I have.
