I am researching my McBRIDE family who left Northern Ireland (don't know where) in the early to mid-1800's, and settled in Michigan by 1862. They may have gone form Ireland to Canada, and from there to Michigan. Thanks!

Do you have anymore information such as names, dates of birth etc.

William McBride was born in Royal Oak, MI abt 1863. In the censuses taken after he was married, he says that his father was born in Northern Ireland, and his mother was Canadian-Eng. Now, I have spoken with some distant cousins, who have a letter written from one of William's children, saying that William's parents' names were James McBride and Agnes Starret, and both were born in Belfast. So either she was mistaken about where Agnes was born, or William was. Also, I'm not entirely sure that William's parents were James and Agnes, as I can't find as census records of William with these parents before he was married. The only census I can find in Michigan with a William the right age has parents listed as John and Jane McBride, both from Ireland. To make matters even more confusing, I can find no records of William's birth, and his obituary mentions nothing of parents. So I have no idea who or what to believe. Frustrating!

There are many MCBRIDEs in County Donegal, Ireland.  My MCBRIDEs came from Kilkenny.

There are lots of McBrides in County Down - try the Ulster Historical Foundation! I have McBrides in Ontario - Northumberland County!
