Hello all,

I am giving this presentation Sunday, November 27 in Los Angeles at the monthly meeting of the British Isles Family History Society.

It talks about where my autosomal DNA test has led me researching my mother's family in Ireland.

This is a Powerpoint presentation.  Hope somebody finds it helpful.

That is really interesting! I've long been interested in DNA testing - especially since I believe it could really help my father identify exactly which area his paternal line is from in England. I'll have to share this with him!

Please do so Catherine and if you decide to do any autosomal DNA testing and your $$$ is limited, remember to test the oldest available generation in the line you are researching.

Glad you found it of interest.

Yeah, my dad is part of the oldest available generation now (although not the oldest - he has first cousins older than his own father since his father was the youngest of 12). He is hesitant about the DNA testing just like you said, but now that my parents only have on dependent (my younger brother), rather than all six of us still, then my dad should have the resources available to get the testing done. I'll just need to show him the powerpoint at Christmas when we are up.

Thanks again Susan!

Very interesting.  I'm working with a man from WI and our DNA testing to date seems to indicate some Native American family connection that we have yet to put together but I'm adopted so I'm working with limited resources.  We are talking about taking our testing to the next level though.  In my family of origin there  are some Dwyer's and there will be a Dwyer/O'Dwyer clan rally in VA in Sept 2012 so they are trying to get as many people as possible to do any any level of testing.  Thank you for sharing your story; it is pushing me to seriously consider further testing.
