W Surname - WHITEFORD probably from Antrim

Hi all, I've just joined the group. James Whiteford son of Alexander Whiteford and Margaret Cain/Kain/Cane was born in Ireland in May 1826 but christened in Campbeltown Argyll Scotland in late May 1826. James later emigrated to Australia but Alexander, Margaret and at least two of their other children, Catherine and Margaret died in Campbeltown. James death certificate in Australia just shows Ireland as his place of birth. There may also have been other children, Thomas and Rosanne who I believe emigrated to the US.

Alexander was a fisherman/labourer and Angus Martin's book "The Hidden Kintyre" notes that there were a number of Whiteford families in Campbeltown involved in fishing who were from Ireland and all probably related. I have not had any luck in tracing Alexander and his family back to a specific location in Ireland and would love to do this.
