My maternal grandparents ( on both sides)came from Belfast. They were the Cully's and the Bryans.
They settled in Ontario,Canada. The Bryans lived in Toronto.but some moved to Bracebridge.
My great grandmother Elizabeth Cully came to Canada in 1919 with her married daughter Elizabeth Bryans.
recently,I found that the 1911 Irish census became available on the National Archives of Ireland site.Is everyone aware of this site?
My ancestors came from County Antrim which came online in Dec.2008.
Finally,we found our relatives on the census!!!
Anyone searching these names or does anyone have more helpful info?
email me at eglanglois@hotmail.com
Thanks,Elaine

Hello, I sent a message, but not sure where it went so hope this isn't a duplicate. I am looking for information on my great great grandparents, Michael Skiffington/Mary Quinn. I believe they married in Ireland, but don't know where in Ireland they came from. I have been unable to find them on passenger lists but know in 1847 they were living in Philadelphia, PA. He was born about 1823 and had brothers Felix, Francis and Bernard. Mary also born about 1823. I believe she had a brother John. I know this is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but am hoping someone somewhere has seen the name Skiffington and will breat thru my brick wall. Thank you for any help

My 3rd great-grandparents were Thomas HANLEY and Bridget WHITE. They married in Ireland (county unknown) where their first-born son, Patrick, was born on March 17, 1847. They immigrated to the USA about 1848-49, where they settled in Albany, New York for about a year or so. They moved to Milwaukee, Wisconson in time to be counted in the 1850 Census. They had six more children in Milwaukee. Bridget died before 1860 and Thomas cannot be found after the 1860 census. The children scattered to Minneapolis, Minnesota and Chicago, Illinois. I only have names for two other sons - James HANLEY and Michael HANLEY, my 2nd great-grandfather. Michael HANLEY married Hannah MCDONALD in Minneapolis, Minnesota. One or two HANLEY children may have stayed in Milwaukee. Patrick HANLEY worked for several railroads and settled in Homestead, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. He married Margaret BARRETT. The Hanley's may have immigrated through Canada, as they are not found in any U. S. passenger lists.

My great-great grandparents came from Ireland. Have no idea where in Ireland. And I can not find him in any passenger list. I don't even know when. He took land out in 1849 in Wisconsin. I don't even know true birth date of him. He gained 14 years in one census to the next. His name was Daniel Mulhair/Mulhare, he married Anne Cullen in the United States. thanks

Hi Listers, I have just joined your group and hope to hear from members who are researching County Wicklow and the Enniskerry/Powerscourt/Bray area.
I have been to Ireland before but still have not broken through my brick walls even with the help of the Wicklow Family History Centre.

My ancestor Joseph Bradner was born in the famine period and I suspect he may have been born in a Poor House. Has anyone seen these records for the area?

I am researching my great great grandfather William Ryan who was a major in the American Civil War. His obituary states that he was from Leinster, Queen's County (now Laois) Ireland and was a soldier in Ireland. He, his mother, sister and 2 brothers came to Grand Rapids Michigan in the early 1850's, after stopping in Canada for a time. His mother's last name was Lawler or Lawlor. I wonder how hard it will be to find out what parish they were from in Ireland. Am also researching the McCarthy family from somewhere in Ireland. They showed up in New Haven, CT in the 1850's.

Hi Frances;
Yes that is the way it is here at the moment, if it is before 1864 it is almost , but I stress Almost Impossible to find information. If you have a year and a Parish that someone lived in you may be able to view the local Parish records if they are availible.
Not good news, but we push on regardless.
Regards; Alan
