I am researching the Sanguinette/Sanguinetti, Castagnino, and Canepa families. Based on ship records, I believe they are from the Liguria area. They left Italy through Genoa. According to family stories, Pietro Sanguinette was the son of Pierre Sanguenette who came to Northern Italy in 1789. I would love to know more of the history about the area. Pietro Sanguinette died from yellow fever shortly after arriving in the U.S. in 1853. Rosa Canepa Sanguinette married Stephan Castagnino in Missouri. I am trying to find out more about the Castagnino and Canepa families, too.

Any help or pointing to directions I can take for research, would be appreciated.

My grandparents -- Pietro and Giovanna [Nave] Toso -- were from the town of Varese Ligure in the Liguria Region of northern Italy.  They each came to the U.S. in the late 1890s.  Pietro settled in Colma, San Mateo County, California, where he married Giovanna.  They had a number of acres of land in Colma and ran a vegetable-growing farm for many years.  

 

I know that they had relatives who remained in Italy, although I haven't been able to locate and contact their descendants to date.

 

If you are researching this family, I'd be delighted to hear from you.  I'd also be glad to trade information.
