Mel and I have been working on who were Ezekiel's parents. Mel obtained a certified copy of Ezekiel's 1920 Death Certificate and has made some great advances!. Thank you Mel!
Based on
1) DC lists his parents as David Ramsey Jones and Olive Belle Josey,
2) DC states that Ezekiel was born in Oakey Streak, AL, &
3) the following article, no date given;
Mel feels sure we have the correct info and I agree. According to the article, Ezekiel's maternal grandparents were James William Josey and Nancy Salter.
I will not post the entire article but you can visit and read it if you wish. The article, while about the Josey side, does add more validity to Ezekiel's mother being Olive Belle Josey, rather than Olive Ballard Hollingshead as was before suspected. Olive's sister Martha married Dr. Jonathan O. BALLARD so that may have been where the Ballard name arose.

by Curtis Thomasson
The Andalusia Star-News.James and Nancy continued to reside in Conecuh County until the early 1830s. They had eight children to be born there before they moved to the Oakey Streak community in Butler County. They reared the following children: Robert M., b. 1819, d. 1883, m. 1841 Elizabeth "Betsy" Howard; Olive, b. 1821, m. Ramsey Jones [this is Olive Belle Josey & David Ramsey Jones]; Martha, b. 1822, m. 1847 Dr. Jonathan O. Ballard; James Salter, b. 1823, d. 1908, m. (1) 1843 Elizabeth Huggins (2) 1858 Mrs. Civel M. James Brown; Elizabeth S., b. 1826, d. 1897, m. 1854 Richard Singleton Hughes; Rebecca, b. 1828, d. 1904, m. 1849 James Long; John C., b. ca 1830, m. 1855 Harriett ?; Evander Travis, b. 1833, d. 1920, m. It is interesting to note that Wm Henry Jones named a daughter Ollie Bell but her name may have been Olive with only her nickname "Ollie" surviving. Too bad we do not have a family bible to research!
Mel graciously gave me permission to add the Death Cert to my website. You can view it here:
