William Jones b. abt 1799 GA married a Mariah ?

This is my grgrgrandfather born in GA abt 1799.  William is such a common name don't know where to start.  His son, my grgrandfather William Washington Jones born 1846 in Alabama married Catherine Phillips.They had  a lot of kids. Surely I have kin out there somewhere possibly as lost as I am.  Thanks for any help.
