Scotland had its biggest clan gathering ever this weekend in Edinburgh, culminating in a clan parade up the Royal Mile finishing at Edinburgh castle. The hereditary chief of the surname in Scotland, Charles Kennedy (Marquess of Ailsa) was there to greet Kennedys. The picture above shows the Kennedy chief with his three feathers on the right with my father John Kennedy on the left. We had Kennedy visitors from Scotland, England, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland. The most popular question by far was "isn't Kennedy an Irish name?"!. One woman just wasn't having it that there could be a separate group with the same surname, but in fact surnames often have multiple origins. More on this fascinating topic, one day.
