Thomas Joseph Hightower was b. ABT 1765 in South Carolina Colony Death: Aft 1830 in Cocke Co. TN.  Military Service 1812 supposedly Served Under

Andrew Jackson At The Battle Of New Orleans

Married: 1806 in Charleston, Charleston Co. SC  Nancy Mason b: Abt 1775 in SC . d. after 1850 in Cocke Co, TN Thomas Hightower and Nancy (Mason) Hightower

 had some of their children in SC and the rest in Cocke Co. TN.

The family moved probably from Charleston SC to Barnwell District SC, to VA for a short time, and then to Newport, Cocke Co., TN by about 1820.

Thomas is shown in the 1830 Cocke Co. Census living next door to son Allen. 

 Children were 

2.1. William Joseph Hightower, b April 1807 Charleston, South Carolina, Death: 26 Aug 1868 in Near Bluffton, Ray Co. MO. May have  married

2.2. Allen W. Hightower (b. in 1813 SC ) Allen died abt 1875, Cocke Co.,TN.

Marriage 1 abt 1829, Louisa Jefferson b: 1813 in VA.  d. abt 1845, Cocke Co., TN Louisa Jefferson is referred to as Allen’s wife in a biography of Allen’s son Thomas Jefferson Hightower in Memoirs of Georgia  published 1895. The 1830 census of Cocke Co.shows Allen’s household to be one male (Allen) and one female (Louisa?) both age 15 to 20 and another male under age 5 (probably their first b. Thomas Jefferson Hightower, b. October 29, 1829. By the 1840 census Allen and his wife appear to have six children.

Marriage 2 abt 1845, Priscilla b: 1830 in NC.  In the 1850 Census names of all the household are shown for the first time, but by this time

Allen’s first wife (presumably named Louisa is missing. Instead there is an apparent second wife PriSC illa (sometimes Drucilla). PriSC illa

 shows as 20 in 1850 and 28 in the 1860 census.  She is apparently the mother of Allen’s eighth child John, 

Marriage 3 Martha E. __ [Allen appears to have had a total of thirteen children] 

ABT. 1828 in Cocke Co., TN Elizabeth Clevenger was b. ABT. 1807 in Cocke Co., TN, and died 6 Apr 1889 in Ray Co., MO.
