More info will be forthcoming but there are plans in works and I wanted to give everyone enough notice. Barb Lawson sent an email and I have posted it below. The Lawson Family Heritage Program is for the Descendants of William Lawson and Rebecca (surname unknown). William Lawson, of Scotland, fought in the Battle of Culloden, was captured and sent to the American colonies as an indentured slave in 1746. He fought in the American Revolution and his sons fought in the CSA. Please visit the LFHP site or Patti Lawson's database on Rootsweb to see if you are a descendant. There is no cost in joining the LFHP and it helps to see all the many desc of William Lawson, get help with your research and find unknown relations. If you plan to attend, please send Eileen Shelton an email as soon as you know so they can see how much space they need.
This Gathering is only for descendants of William Lawson so please check to make sure you are descended from his line.
You can do this via the main site or the database, both linked above.
-----------------------------
Bill (Laughing Bear) Lawson, from the line of (James P. Lawson and Eliza Simpkins) has generously offered to set up a very special event at his home near the Middletown, Ohio area.
Eileen Shelton and Susie Lawson will be taking e-mails and early RSVP's, and pulling it all together.
There are many of our lines that left Kentucky for Ohio and point's north. Middletown is one of the largest areas that we find our families. Bill's place is in Franklin, Ohio.
So far this is what is being planned.
Here is Eileen's e-mail: emshelton@zoomtown.com,
In order to make this a success we need to know who is tentatively planning on attending, and how we can make it special for everyone.
Bill will have an area for Self Contained Camping. He will also be setting up a large canopy, with internet connection availabilty, and power.
We are hoping to pull together some guest speakers, and some entertainment. Of course the invite for you to join in with your musical talents for evening campfires is at the top of our entertainment list!
Dates:
Thurs: August 26...Possible Library/LDS/Family History center workshop
Friday: August 27th .....Library/LDS/Family History center workshop
Saturday: August 28th ..... Workshop at Bill Lawson's
Sunday: Aug 29th. Workshop at Bill Lawson's
Please help with your response:
Might you attend?
Would you be camping, or would you prefer a local motel in the area
What days would you most likely attend:
Plan to bring your own food and beverages.
We would like to plan at least one meal together, probably Saturday early evening.
We would hope that you won't mind chipping in to cover the costs of whatever we do.
Would you prefer to bring a dish to share for a pot luck, or would you prefer for a meal to be planned (Catered, or carry out style) by our planning committee.
A couple of the items of interest are:
Family Cemeteries and a road tour to them
Genealogy Workshops
Family History reporting
Migration from Kentucky
If you are bringing young children, we would like to have some games for them.
Please let us know. If you are an old kid at heart...we also are planning some games as well.
We also would like to work with you on any data you need help with before the event.
Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
As we begin to receive responses, and the planning is finalized there will be a list of motels, and directions to Bill's home.
We will be putting flyers in Libraries, the newspapers, and in the Kentucky explorer.
Hope you'lle consider spending the weekend with us.
Sincerely,
Barb Lawson
Lawson Family Heritage Program.
As I get more info I will post it here.
