Hi Margaret, there are 3 possible FreeBMD entries for your gran two at Hull 1874 and 1875 and one 1900 at Sculcoates. You need her marriage cert to determine who her father was, then look for his marriage and Laura's baptism.

My grandmother was Laura Lightower born in or near Hull Yorkshire in  1870-75 I am still reaching it. She married a Frank Lord around 1898 near Hull. They had 3 children Guy Lord born 1903 Winifred Lord born March 22 1906 and David Lord born march 1914. Grandfather Frank Lord went down at sea in January 1914 before the first world war. Guy had no children David had one girl Kathleen May born 1942. Any information would be helpful

Hi Bruce. Here is the link to Yorkshire

'The History of the Parish of Rochdale' by Henry Fishwick

'Of Richard Lightowlers nothing more is known. The church registers of this period show that there were then living in the parish two of that name, both of whom had issue .

One of this family, Edmund Lightowlers of Newbold, clothier, was buried at Rochdale 31st July, 1623, and by his will (dated 6th July 1623 and proved at Chester) he left half his goods to his wife Jane, to his brother James (several children of his were baptised at Rochdale) his best hat and shoes, and to his brother Charles his best jerkyn ; he also mentions his servant, Jane Lightowlers.' From the Will of Charles Lightowlers of Baitings in Soyland (Yorkshire) written 14 Oct 1623 ...Land in the parish of Ealand (Elland Yorkshire) is bequeathed to his brother Charles. The son and daughters of Charles married locally.

Hi All - my maternal grandmother was a Lightoller (in New Zealand). I have a lot of info on the New Zealand Lightoller branch if anyone is interested. I would love to share information - and am especially keen to learn more of how the Lancashire Lightollers are connected to the Yorkshire Lightollers. My lot came to New Zealand from Chorley.

Thanks for the complement Paul.
I'm still chipping away at the brick walls. I'm looking at a couple of wills from 1623 at the moment, they link the Yorkshire Lightowlers back to the Rochdale ones, infact there are members of a family split between the 2 counties. The two wills also refer to Lightollers and Lightoulers.
I too would be interested to see the Lightowler database.

Hi Agnes

I see Dave Bland is already a member, he has done far more research than me; I don't get that much time - but I have maintained a Lightowlers website for a few years now lightowlers.yolasite.com . I would be interested to see the information you have collected.

Regards

Paul Lightowlers
