What Is Lineascope?

In genealogy, there is more to a sound conclusion than a list of sources. To build a solid case, you first need to preserve and then analyze sources, information, evidence, and evaluate the quality of each. Unfortunately, your genealogy program doesn't store all that. But now there is a solution:

Lineascope preserves entire lines of evidence! From source through to proof statement. And it presents it in one simple view so analysis is easier. It's an online application that runs in your web browser, so you can access your data from any computer in the Internet.

With Lineascope, your research has more value for you and those you share it with.

All it takes is a free Google account. Try it now or learn more.

Rather late in the day, I would like to "second" Linda's ideas about names and nicknames.

Perfectly accurate and complete, Ben! Oh, if I only had someone around fulltime to clarify my thoughts in this way! Thank you!

Hi, Linda. Thanks! I added your requests to the product backlog (my todo list):

1. As a user, I would like to be able to document each individual's name (not aliases) so that I can research, analyze, and capture conclusions about the names of research subjects.

2. As a user, I want aliases to appear under the individual name so that I can quickly see what names research subjects have used.

Are those accurate and complete?

Thank you! It's all looking really great!

On another question, I see you have "Alias" as a possible characteristic. Will you also be adding the capability of documenting the actual name? I'm thinking of a specific case I have where the spelling of my father-in-law's first name has come into question. I ended up having to search quite a lot of different documents, letters, signatures, etc., trying to document the spelling of his name, and I would like to be able to document that whole search and the results. I'm not quite sure where that documentation should be entered the way the format stands right now. It doesn't quite seem right to note it as a characteristic. I would rather have the documentation right with the name. I would prefer including nicknames possibly underneath the actual name, too.

Hi, Linda. There hasn't been any more discussion regarding relationships. My plan is to build that functionality next; I just released support for characteristics. There will be (at least partial) relationship functionality next weekend.

Just wondering if there had been anymore discussion about the documenting of parents within Lineascope yet. It seems like it should be possible to do this in the same manner the events are done, as you suggested, Ben.

This is probably a dumb question, but am I understanding correctly that, once the relationship-documenting features are added to Lineascope, it will eliminate the need for the old style of research logs?

Thank you for the videos. I have studied just the first one, it promises to be helpful. I now have a better understanding of the basic entry process.

I just finished watching all four new videos. They were extremely helpful, and as always, very well done. Thank you! I'm excited to start using Lineascope!
