i can help , what name are u in need of
Hello Robyn,
My ancestor is:
Mary Jane Dove, b: 13 May 1852, in Alabama
Her Mother is Nancy McDonald, b:1833
Her Father is James Henry Dove, b: 1822

The family story is that they were living in Alabama when the Civil War started.....James Henry went off to fight in the war and Nancy McDonald Dove went to New Orleans with the children (not sure how many) and got yellow fever and died. The children were placed in a "Catholic Orphanage". The story goes on to say that Mary Jane Dove became a nun.

I found Mary Jane Dove in the 1880 census in New Orleans District 68: Address of census: Laurel St. .....St Joseph's German Orphan Asylum.......she was listed as Sister Mary Dove.

I have been unable to find anything else. I would like to know when she died and where she is buried. If she stayed with St. Joseph's Orphanage.....perhaps they have records......if she stayed in New Orleans.

I am also trying to find out if Nancy McDonald Dove is buried somewhere in New Orleans.

You can email me at lbernero@sbcglobal.net if needed.

Thanks, Louise
