I love this woman's fancy bonnet with ribbons, and beautiful shawl with ornate designs along the edge. Notice her dress with its natural waistline, puffy sleeves that narrow to a cuff at her wrists, and her full skirt.

The actual photo is rather sloppily fastened to the card backing - note the tilted angle of the photo - which was often found in early CDVs. Also note the square corners which indicate 1859-1872

However this CDV can be dated between 1864 and 1866 which is when Revenue Stamps were required on photographs.

Sometimes it is difficult with older women to determine a date when the photo was taken. Older women often wear clothes that are out of style or hairstyles that they had when they were younger. But the revenue stamp clinches the years to 1864-1866. The stamp on the verso is hand cancelled with an "X" and the photographer name and location is on the front of the CDV.
