hi all-
I'm curious if there are any folks researching the LaCour Family? My LaCours were from Louisiana, and my great great great grandfather spent most of his life in Libert County, TX, but died in Jefferson County.

I'd be happy to start a group if there is interest-

Kate, I sent you the info on LaCour before. You might want to check out Pointe Coupee Parish LA on the internet, US GenWeb, etc. If you Googel Pointe Coupee Parish LA, you find a couple of good websites.

What's happening is that I am seeing the LaCour name along with my family of Porche in Pointe Coupee Parish. I don't remember where I was the other day but I will find and send to you: lots of LaCour in same area as my Porche. I am assuming LaCour was French Creole as were the Porche family because these were families that lived in a specific area in Pointe Coupee Parish separate from Americans. They did not associate with Americans back in those days. They did, however, associate and marry into many Spanish families and a few German families.

I just thought it was worth mentioning since I am seeing the names together in the same place. As far as I know, they did not intermarry.

The Porche's are my husband's family and his g.g.g. grandfather, Pierre Porche, also came to TX prob abt the same time your's did. I think it was 1850 but I would have to check that. I always wondered why he came to TX. Another person in our family said it was to get away from having two families who often lived together: white and black. However, Pierre Porche brought his black family along with his white family to TX with him so I don't think that's it. Maybe it was just for the adventure and Texas had just become a state of the Union in 1845.

Anyway, interesting stuff. I hope you find something in Pointe Coupee Parish. The history of the place is interesting in itself.
Hi Dodie-
Actually my Great Great Great Great grandparents Gilbert and Aurelia were first cousins. :) I'd love to see/read you have found, I believe my family was from Natchitoches Parish, I have information that indicates my great great great grandparents, Mathilde Compere married Gus(Gustave?) LaCour in Natchitoches on Dec 11, 1873.

thank you :)
Kate
