Hi Everyone,
Hope you are having a wonderful holiday weekend. :0)
We have just launched a new blog called
Restore the Ancestors, where you can keep up with the latest news and volunteer discoveries in the collaboration with Footnote.com, to index SC Estate Inventories and Bills of Sale, 1732-1872.
These documents hold the names of more than 30,000 enslaved SC ancestors. They have only been available on microfilm and have never been indexed. We can change that!
- The South Carolina Department of Archives and History holds the original records and has provided access to them and given their kind permission to place them on the Internet
- FamilySearch International donated the copies of the microfilms to be digitized
- Footnote.com contributed the time and expense to digitize the films and host the collection
We sincerely thank our advisory board members George Geder and Angela Y. Walton-Raji for their efforts and guidance, and so many thanks to everyone who has volunteered to index 10 pages of these records.
There are amazing discoveries coming out of this collection every day. You can follow the
Restore the Ancestors blog to keep up with the latest news!
Best and Peace,
Toni
