Wonderful!  I'm going to explore these connections and avenues.  Thanks so much for your help, Kay and Dora.  I'll let you know what I find.

Peggy, also at familysearch.org I found John Low in the 1880 US Census in Milton, Georgia.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M8GF-TK4

Also found him in the 1860 Census in Milton, Georgia.  I am looking for a free link for you.  John Low  46,  Cyntha Low  40, Julia Low  14,  Adis Low  12,

John Low  11, Ottavia Low  7.  Their post office is listed as Shady Grove was page 69, but now listed as page 603.

Peggy,  I looked on familysearch.org and found a marriage record for

John Lowe marriage to Syntha Rogers on 30 January, 1845.   FamilySearch .org is a free website.  They got married in Forsyth, Georgia.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KXV3-SZ7

If you click on "View Image" you can see the marriage on the second page.   Also on the web site you can get a free account and start a family tree and add this document.    Hope this helps you!!  Also I think that you can set up a free account at the Ancestry.com and put a family tree there as well.

It is possible that the Gwinnett County list at Rootsweb can help you with how to research deeds, tax records and probate in that time and place.   I would subscribe to the list and post the queries on the corresponding forum/ board, because the chances are good it will automatically cross post to the list.   Otherwise, usually I get on the phone.  Do google and make sure that county doesn't have atleast some records and/or indexes to them online.

James Otis Lowe died in Gwinnett County in Nov 1850, or Nov 1849.   Nancy Lowe died after that.   (b 1794 in Virginia according to Mortality schedules.  Lived in Militia District 36, Gwinnitt, Georgia.   (Two versions of it, one gives Nov 1849 and the other gives Nov 1850, but it is attached to the 1850 census.)

Now, it gives him in Rutherford, NC, in 1830, but the source document (1830 census) merely lists James Low.

Thanks so much Dora.  Any help is GREATLY appreciated.  My husband and I live in Honduras where we serve in mission work.  The computer is our connection with the States.

OK, I'll ask the people there who claim to know who were John's parents; how they know this.  It looks like it may be based on another family living nearby.  There could also be something mentioned in that book.

I'd also look for land records.  The 1860 and 1870 census make it look like he owned land.   Tax and deeds, and also any probate.   Probate is usually easier to find when it exists, and if he did own land the deeds may be attached, new deeds issued, and that sort of thing, and the new deeds would reference the old deeds.

Dora, I can't afford Ancestry.com.  I try to do what I can with free or low cost stuff.  I've found a lot about Cynthia and the Rogers family and the Roger-Bell Cemetery at John's Creek.  I have a son in the area and I am contacting him about visiting there for info and photos.  But John Lowe's family of origin is a total mystery.  It's like he dropped out of nowhere.  Thanks so much

Roger-Bell Cemetery (Johns Creek) Fulton Co GA, tells story of Rogers family, and a reference to a book.

Peggy, are you a member of Ancestry?   This family has been well researched in the Family Trees.  I haven't so far found more than you did, but some people there did; for instance, a marriage date and place, and a death date and place.

If not and if you need it I could do some sniffing on your behalf.
