Do you have a connection to the Maryland Catholic League of Families? I find it very interesting and just getting started on this branch. Would love to share info on this event and the impact it had on our families.

Sixty families in the League of Catholic Families, mainly from St. Mary's County, Maryland, pledged to emigrate to the Pottinger's Creek area of Nelson County1, 5, 6. The first group of 25 families left Maryland in 1785, under the leadership of Basil Hayden. A group5 led by James Rapier followed in 1786, settling closer to Bardstown, and another under Thomas Hill and Philip Miles in 1787, some of whom settled in the Pottinger's Creek area1, 5. European history is one of continuous religious struggle. Maryland was originally established as a catholic settlement. However, shortly following the abolishment of the 'Headright System' ca 1685, the protestants revolted and once again the catholics were disenfranchised. Finally after the signing of the declaration and the passing of an Amendment to the Constitution in 1777, catholics ... The Maryland "Catholic League of Families" was formed shortly after in/around St Mary's which vowed to flee to Kentucky. It's been said the majority of the European colonial Kentucky families were catholic and a result of this Maryland migration.
