Hi, Margi. No, we have the same date of death for Clement (Sr.): 17 Sept 1671 at Hingham. How sure is Newton of the "birth" date being a baptismal date? What's his source for this?

Meanwhile, if you don't mind sharing, I'd like to add your line to my database, if I may? I'm as interested in descendants as I am ancestors, and especially living cousins. :)

Hi Gary,

I should have looked closer at my records. Clement, James, Edward, they were all popular names back then. That said I'm related to your Clement Bates thru his son Clement Bates, who had Joseph Bates, who had Esther Bates and so on. However, I have a different date of death:
Clement died on 17 Sep 1671 at the age of 75. Harding gives exerpts of his will,
dated 12 Oct 1669.
Source : Harding, Louis B., _Bates_, unpublished family notes
Newton Bates claims that Clement was baptized, rather than
born, on 22 Jan 1595 at Lydd, England. He confirms the crossing
information given above, as well as the land grant information
and the children's names and birth years.

Hi, Margi. Actually, according to most Clement Bates descendants, Clement's parents were James Bate (1562-1613) and Mary Martin. I have the line back to 1415, as confirmed by the Bates Association and I've added, from another source, back to 1370 (Thomas Bate).

I've never seen any other mentions of sister for Clement, either. All that is known of are his brothers James (1582) and Edward (1592).

Hi Gary:

You wrote, "Hi, everyone. I have ancestors galore all over Massachusetts, particularly in Worcester County, and including several lines of founders, including Clement Bates (1594-1676), one of the founders of Hingham (1635)." Clement was the son of Joseph Bates (1628-1706). Clement had a sister Esther who married a Cobb. The Cobb's married into the Harding family, and the Harding's married into the Lombard's and that's how I'm related to them.

I've found this site to be helpful when looking for vital records.

I am looking for any info on the Wipfler line. Henry Wipfler lived in Boston Mass at 137 or 131 Federal St. This address has only come to light from some personal effects I got from my mother. I think he may have lived in Boston during the 1860's or 70's.Then I have him living at 563 Somerville Ave ,Somerville Mass. This info I have again from some personal effects and the city directorys for 1890 to 1892. I guess I'm looking to see when he came to this country and any other info. I believe he was born in Baden

I am interested in researching ancestors and descendents of William Winborne. William may have gone by other variants of the name such as Wenban. His wife was Elizabeth Wen. William came to MA in early 1600's. Would like to exchange information.

Hence the reason for doing away with the wall comments, then? Just a suggestion. Either that or making them searchable, just like the forum, if possible.
