Hello Everyone

I am researching Charles Hamilton Carr b. 1870 Mayo, Ireland.  His wife was Minnie D. Whitworth.  Their daughter (only one child I know of so far) was Jean A. Carr b. abt. 1925/26.  I have all the census info for this family, however, I am now looking for any record for Jean A. Carr, as in bmd records for her.  So far I have found nothing online, and since I live in Ontario, Canada, any look up help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks. Wendy

Greetings Timothy!

A quick check of the census returns for 1900, 1910, and 1920 show that Florence Joseph Sullivan, born May 1868, immigrated to Boston from Ireland in 1887, was married in 1891 to Mary T. Flanagan, born Feb 1872, (who immigrated to Boston from Ireland in 1888), and they were naturalized about 1901. By 1900 they had 3 children living (per census one had died) who were

Kathaleen M., b. Nov 1891

Cornelius J. (called Joseph in 1920 census), b. Aug 1893

Annie J., b. Feb 1899

By 1910 they had 3 more daughters, namely

Mary C., b. ca. 1903

Eileen M., b. ca. 1906

Frances M., b. ca. 1909

And by 1920, they had another son,

Florence J., b. ca. 1911.

It appears that Florence J. Sullivan became a fire fighter for the city of Boston, and the family lived at 7 Prospect Street, which was a 3 family structure. His son, Cornelius Joseph Sullivan, after serving an apprenticeship in a print shop around 1910, also became a fireman with the Boston Fire Department by 1920 when he and all of his siblings except for your grandmother were still living at home with their parents.

I was also able to locate the marriage record of Ernest S. Ott and Maude K. Sullivan and thought you might be interested in that info . . .

Mass. Vital Records, Boston Marriages 1914/MV2, p. 258, no. 6424

11 October 1914

Ernest S. Ott, age 23, 1st marriage, resid: 42 W. Newton St., occup: Plumber, born: Washington, DC, parents: Joseph W. Ott, Josephine E. Hartbrecth

Maude K. Sullivan, age 21, 1st marriage, resid: 7 Prospect St., born: Cambridge, MA, parents: Florence J. Sullivan, Mary T. Flanagan.

Hope this helps!

Hi everyone! One of the best (and free) sources online for finding publications on any topic is the WorldCatalog (http://www.worldcat.org). Christy, the book you are likely looking for is called "Massachusetts Soldiers, Sailors and Marines in the Civil War," which was published in 1937. If you search on the WorldCat site and enter your zip code, it will tell you the closest library that has the book. Hope this helps!

What were the names of the 2 huge reference books that you looked up in your library, Cherly Dynan?

There are 2 ways to dothis research. You can go to the NARA website as you can look for pension info. There were several people with my ancestors name so I went to my public library (here in Ma) and in the reference section they had 2 huge books in which I looked uo til I found mine. That gave me his regiment date and his in and out dates. I was then sure of my info when I went to the regional National Archives to look up and get the info they need in Washington to send the pension info.

What is a great source for finding Union Soldiers from Mass. who served in the Civil War during the years 1861-1865?
