Ellen:  I have Jacob (b ca 1774) as the son of Matthias and Susannah as the d/o Christopher Tanner and Margaret Cook.

Steven Lock:  I don't have information about the children of Daniel but I have him as the son of Levi and Mary Ann Heeter.  Levi was the son of Adam and Sallie Lock House.  This Adam was the son of George and Catherine Rookstool House and the grandson of Matthias House.

Hi Nancy!  I'm very pleased to see a familiar name here.  My House family moved from Virginia around 1800 or thereabouts to the Butler County Ohio area.  Jacob House married Susannah Tanner.  Their daughter Julia married Alexander Ayers and their daughter Susannah married William Murray Rowan.  I don't know where you want to put me.

I have added photos of HOUSE HOLLOW FARM to my page. If you go to photos and click on slide show you will see them. Some of you had expressed an interest in seeing the interior of the house. Enjoy.

My uncle Jeff House, is also in the military. He is a Lt. Colonel. He was in Iraq last Christmas for a 6 month deployment, then as a Major. He is a descendant of Matthias as far as we can tell for now. I'm an extremely poor college student right now, and the only one REALLY interested in our family's history, so I can't afford the DNA testing yet, but when I can, I surely will get on it.

Nancy,

I don't know any of the House family members living in that area anymore myself. All my close relatives there that I know have different last names. They are my fathers sisters children. Most have the name Drown.

There are a few of us serving, I am the only one with the name House in my line. I have first cousins on my fathers side with the name Drown, Cicato, and Norris all serving as well. Seems to be a family tradition of sorts.

Over the years it has been a rare treat to bump into other service members with our name. The most I've seen at once was five of us, at the seaport in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1994.

I was standing in the chow line, when a guy a few people in front of me told his buddy, hey look his name's House too. At first I thought they were talking about me, then I seen the soldier that was speaking pointing to the right. We all looked over and sure enough, there was another House.

When the soldier the first was talking to turn to talk to the other House, I seen his name was House. I thought it was a funny coincidence and joined the conversation making number three. As we were talking the chow line started passing us by. A few minutes later, we heard two more guys in line were talking about how odd it was to run each other with the name House.

Sure enough, they were both named House as well. At that point we all just kind of stood there dumbfounded staring at each other. What do you say? Five guys with our last name not knowing each other standing in the same chow line ten thousand miles from home.

One guy was from California, I was born in Florida, One was from South Bend, Indiana, one was Alabama, and I think the last was either Oklahoma or Mossiouri.

Small world!

Louis,

I do believe my Thomas's father William came from Jassimine County, Ky at least that is what I remember from talking to my grandparents years ago.

Anyhow, Thomas was born in Ohio in 1840 and moved to Indiana where he rasied his fgamily. His wife was Sarah Ann Ball. I beleive Thomas died in Indiana in 1918.

The story we were always told growing up was that our family came from Germany to settle in the Germantown settlements around Culpepper, Va then migrated from Virginia through Jassimine county Ky, then Preble, Ohio into Eaton, Indiana.

If I am tracking everything correctly, and from Norma's message below, our common ancestor would be Matthias Sr. father of Micheal and Matthias Jr. from Virginia.

Surprisingly, I grew up living between Florida and Virginia. In all the years in Virginia, I never once drove up to the Culpepper area to look around. Just never had the time. Someday, I just might have to drive up and show my kids the old Lutheran Church discussed on this thread, they would like that.

Earl,

Thank you for your service in Vietnam, you guys had a difficult time, serving, often drafted, in a time when our society took their anger out on the service members. It is hard enough leaving your family to go overseas let alone being villified by those you serve for. Those of us today definately respect and appreciate what you guys done for all of us.

Like back then the mail is still slow in reaching us, that is why I said I'd take the DNA test when I get home. We are two months from leaving and they normally stop our snail mail about a month out, that way the packages don't get here after we leave. With less than a month of mail time remaining, I wouldn't want to have the test sent here only to be missed.Especially with the expected holiday back log of mail in the next several weeks.

Hi Norma,
Nice to meet you. If Mathias' son Thomas had a son named John, this fits perfectly. I have looked at the "Nancy House Perry" records from another website and was able to determine that Thomas House was the father a John House. John is my Great Great Grandfather. Leory Sr and Leroy Jr were both only children. I am the first of 5, Three sons and two daughters from Leroy Jr. Unless I am mistaken, Malcolm House was also an only child. Malcolm's wife Ella May Hilton House lived to be 83 years old. She and I were very close to the day she passed.
Thanks for helping.

Louis

Hi Louis
You listed your line from Matthias Jr. Ralph's line is from Michael, brother to Matthias. Michael's line pretty much went into Preble co., OH and into Indiana around Muncie. It was Michael and Jacob Rouse who went to Lititz,PA and brought back the organ for the church.
These are the children I have listed for Matthias Jr and Susanna Floyd House: Nancy, Elizabeth, John, Thomas, Michael, Franky, Susan and James. Thomas seems to have had a son Aaron. How does this fit in with your info.?

Norma
