Peter McClimon/McClymer (c1840-1890)

Peter McClimon was born c1840, probably in County Down, Ireland, and died in 1890 in Dunmore, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Doran in 1866 in Dunmore, at that time in Luzerne County. They had two sons. Mary was born c1833 in Ireland and died in 1872 in Dunmore.

After Mary's death, their young sons were were sent somewhere to be raised, probably in Iowa and possibly by an unidentified sister of Peter's. The logic? As adults both lived in and near Iowa, close to known Iowa cousins, but neither have been found as children in an Iowa or other census. May have been listed with the surname of the family(s) with which they were living.

1a. William Henry McClimon was born in 1869 in Dunmore and died in 1938, most likely in Iowa, where he was buried. He married his first wife, Mary ??? (c1880-1908), c1900. William then married Margaret Bridget Dermody (1873-1930), daughter of Michael Dermody and Anastasia Laffin.

1b. James Vincent McClimon was born in 1871 in Dunmore and died in 1937 in DeWitt, Clinton, Iowa. Big Jim married Mary T Costello (c1875-1928), daughter of Thomas J Costello and Elizabeth Nutterville, in 1898.

After Mary Doran McClymer's death, Peter married Bridget Cunningham, believed to have been the daughter of Andrew Cunningham. She was born c1855 in Ireland and died before 1900, most likely in Dunmore.

2a. Peter James McClymer was born in 1878 in Dunmore and died in 1943 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York. He married Elizabeth C Ford, daughter of James Ford and Bridget Farrell, in 1903 in Minooka, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania. Lizzie was born in 1881 in either Pittston or Avoca, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, and died in 1919 in Dunmore.

2b. According to the records at St Mary's, Michael John McClymer was born in 1880 in Dunmore, but he generally used the named John Francis McLymer. He enlisted in the army during the Spanish American War and was a career soldier. He died in 1960 in Durham, Durham, North Carolina. He married Ada ??? before 1943 and was then married to Daisy Flake, daughter of Jerry Flake. According to her death certificate, she was born in South Carolina in 1895 and died in 1959 in Fort Bragg, Cumberland, North Carolina.

2c. Daniel Joseph McClymer was born in 1884 in Dunmore and died in 1949 in New York City. He married Della Larkin, daughter of William Larkin and Margaret Kenney, in 1907 in Dunmore. She was born in 1886 in Dunmore and died in 1943, also in Dunmore.

2d. Margaret McClymer was born before 1890 in Dunmore and died before 1938.
