Hi Judith,
Thomas McGeorge was born Thomas George, Kilmarnock, Ayreshire, Scotland. His parents were Thomas George and Margaret Wylie. The family went to Australia, Andromache, arrived Sydney 31 Oct 1837. The family had a few more children (13 total) in Australia. They changed their name to McGeorge in the 1840s. It is a hugh family tree, and I have put about 1/2 of it onto family Tree Maker. Would you like me to send it to you.

Why did they change their name? I have found that a few of the McGeorge families from Ayr would originally called George, then when they left and went to Dumfries area of Scotland they became McGeorge. One of my husband's convicts was William Fish 1820s. Family several years later became Fisher! I have quite a few instances of names changes within my own family
How devasting to lose your diaries and history.
This is a fascinating family so will look forward to sending you what I have.
cheers
Kay
Thomas McGeorge- born 26th July 1824- Ayrshire
Who were his parents?
What was their occupation?
Did the whole family emigrate to Australia? Or just the eldest son?
Most family diaries and history was lost in homestead fire in the early 1900's and the few Family Bible entries we have don't have a continuum
I am the widow of Thomas Llewellyn McGeorge-(born 1925)- who was a direct descendant of Thomas McGeorge -born 1824.
Thomas McGeorge born 1824- had several children-the eldest son was Thomas
Llewellyn born 1853
His Eldest son Thomas Llewellyn was born in 1884- he died in 1970
His Eldest son Thomas Llewellyn was born in 1925(my husband who died in 2007)
We did not retain Thomas for our eldest son as 3 generations of Thomas's still living would have been difficult.
However we are curious about our Scottish antecedants.
