There are so many variations with this surname. Our family has even used it many ways, even by the same person.

The McGonigles I connect with are through my step father's family. They came from Ballyliffin, Clonmany,  Inishowen, Donegal, Ulster, Ireland. I haven't got too much though, due to availability of Records.
John McGonigle and Celia (Cecily, Sicily, Cecelia, etc) Doherty. They were born abt 1850s. They wed 18 May 1871 in Clonmany. John died between 1891-1911. I believe that Celia died here in Boston, likely while visiting her daughter. I havent got the death record yet to prove it. hopefully soon.

They had a daughter Sarah, who came to Boston in the early 1900s. She married Philip Hounsell in 1910 and settled in Mission Hill in Boston.  Their daugher Cecelia married Edward Crowley and had Edward Jr. He married my mother 9 years ago.

Now this stuff i know for sure. Now this stuff i believe to be correct, but more research is needed to confirm.

I believe John and Celia had 3 other daughters, Agnes and Celia, and Bridget. I think all 3 came to the US.

As for the mother Celia Doherty, on one of the daughters passenger lists, it stated she was going to visit an uncle, it looked like it said Con Doherty. Now he lived just next to where Sarah was living at the time. I'm not sure if Con is short for Connor, or..

If this Celia that died here in Boston is her, then she is the daughter of Owen and Mary Doherty. I cannot get this record until I get to the archives though.it was 1915 I found another Celia McGonagle that died in Ireland in 1922. that could also be her, but i have no access to that record.

As for other McGonigles, I've decided to do a bit of a surname study. As I have spare time on the NEHGS at the library, i'll start recording all the McGonigles that I come across. I know there are a number of them in the Greater Boston area, including Everett, Malden, Revere, etc. I'd love to see how many of them are connected, and if any to us. Since the surname is based in the same area, I will hopefully be able to connect a number of them, at least to immigration, if not back to Ireland. it will be a long slow process though, since I only get a hour on the computer each time i go to the library. :\

If anyone with an NEGHS memhership would like to help compile data, gimme a holler :)
