Where is your Melcher clan from?

Hey Debbra,

Glad to see you are back in force.. The good thing about our German Heritage is our ability to be tough in difficult situations!!!! I've gone back to work, so there is not as much time as there used to be, but geneology is still my passion. I'm still waiting to see how you connect to Edward and Clara in Iowa, cause that is where we will connect.

Our Melcher clan came from Oberweier, Baden, Rhastadtt, Germany. Cousins Anton and Dennis arrived on the Brigg Julia in New Orleans in 1839. Anton's brothers can be found briefly in Cincinnati, Ohio area (also Dayton, Kentucky which is directly accross the river from Cin., OH) and eventually settled in the Louisville, Kentucky region of (KY and IN) Anton's brothers were Henry, Valentine, & John (my gggrandfather).

Dennis stayed in Louisville for a short time, long enough to meet Mary Ann (Maria Anna) Faust and marry her in New Albany, Indiana. They moved to Iowa and settled in the Des Moines Area. Dennis's brother is Edward who married his cousin Clara. (Others in their family came as well, but their names are not in my mental Library and I would have to look them up, contact me if you are interested)

Our cousin, Mia Peck went to Germany several years ago and visited the home village. Another cousin, Pat White, has provided much of the Iowa information that I have copies of. I believe there is still an exhibit at the Des Moines History Museum about the role of the Melcher's in Pottery.
