I am looking for anyone that can tell me about the Canary Islanders, more specifically the ones that went to St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. My great great great grandmother was named Frances Hernandez. The census says that she was born in Alabama and her father was from Italy. But since I am unable to find any Hernandez men in Alabama around 1823 and her son moved to Arabi, Louisiana where there is a large Isleño population, I think her father might have been one I'd them. Also, I don't usually associate the Hernandez surname with Italy. Any ideas?
