Reynolds County, MO connections
Hi, my gggrandparents, Henderson and Elisabeth Robinson Chitwood left Reynolds County ca 1891/92 and moved to what was then Oklahoma Territory. Henderson died in 1893 [family lore has him contracting TB while serving in the Civil War [CSA]] and Elisabeth, their children and her mother Mary Ann Buford Robinson Horney lived on the land she and Henderson settled. I have several major road blocks among this group of ancestors I would love to get past. Also am interested in learning more about the families in Reynolds County as several of them had traveled with the Chitwoods as they moved from VA to Rutherford County, NC to Campbell County, TN and then to Reynolds County. You will find Chitwoods [all related] in these counties today.

Judith, I am not directly related, but my mother is from Reynolds County where her family has been for several generations. Some of your surnames are the same as those in my various lines: BUFORD, HORNEY, and CHITWOOD. Our main lines are BURNHAM, CALLAHAN, MOONEY, NEELY, and GEORGE, among others.
The first CHITWOOD in the family was William Wayne CHITWOOD, born in Tennessee, died in 1864 in Jefferson Barracks, St Louis County, Missouri, as a Confederate prisoner of war of the Union. He had married Sarah Louise BURNHAM about 1861, and they had two sons: Sterling Price, born 1862, who married Amada Jane ANGEL, and William Wayne, Jr., who was born in 1864 and whom I have not been able to track past the fact that he was born around the time that his father died.
If you have any questions about Reynolds County and the families there, I may be able to help. As I said, this is where my mother is from and I have lived there for several years, in addition to researching in the county for more than twenty years, I may have information you could use.
