I have a Keziah Narcessia Abbott born in Tn about 1800. She married Joseph Abbott and other researchers have said he is linked to Joseph Abbott of Halifax County. I have not seen proof of any of this. I need last name of Keziah, marriage record of Joseph/Keziah or even a deed that shows them linked. Their daughter was married @ 1840 in Smythe County, Va and then they came to Missouri.

I have a Robert Cowan b. 1744 d. 1826 in Sullivan County, Tn. Researchers for 30 years tied him James and Samuel Cowan of the same area. Not so. DNA says he is more closely linked to Scottish ancestry than to any of the Cowan lines tested in this area. I am getting a NC land grant on him dated 1782 to find out where in NC he was living. In 1791 his son was born in Sullivan County, Tn.

We have a Hinds (Hines) from Roane County who married a James C. MatlockDNA proves not Matlock

hi Donna-

I found a link to a book on Joseph and Keziah Narcessia Abbott's descendants:

From reading your posts on other forums, I am assuming you have knowledge of the book, are you trying to prove that the book is correct?

I have a genealogy book for my surname and have been working to prove/disprove the contents at least with regard to my ancestor and it isn't easy.

Kate
No, I didn't know about this book but other postings on Joseph and Keziah have been speculation as far as I have found. I will check out this site. Thanks.
You were talking about Clayton and Noble's books. I know both of them. Noble and Clayton were 1st cousins of my father. Noble looked for over 20 years for Joseph and Keziah....Joseph has an estate filing in Vernon County, Keziah died there but neither have a grave in Missouri or Virginia or Tennessee that could be located. Noble even traveled to those states and physically tried to find them. So, I correct my anwer, yes I have seen those books and yes I am trying to prove them...or find more.
Carol and I have corresponded. Yes, there is a STRONG story that Keziah is full-blooded Cherokee but if my theory is right, that story is wrong. The Hinds lady was also "full-blooded Cherokee" which dna testing proves is not Cherokee but "out of Africa"...on 2 levels. I believe but have not proven that Keziah and the Hinds lady are connected-aunt or sister. But, can't find out anything on Keziah after the 1840 marriage of her daughter in Va.

I have Noble Abbott's book (he was a first cousin of my father) and he couldn't find anything after years of research and visiting all the places. I have worked on this for over 30 years (along with a lot of other research) and still no answers. We got stuck doing Cherokee work and then found that wasn't the answer at all. Now I am tracking all the lines in Eastern Tennessee to see if they are connected there...none of the Eastern Tn group match who they were thought to match prior to dna testing!
Read the post on Keziah. Now that I know the meaning of the name, we may have a connection. The Matlock line we have is from Roane County but not connected by DNA to the Matlocks of Roane County; but they have connections to the Mediterrainian (can't spell it). They don't have any Jewish ancestry either but use of a Hebrew name would be possible. However, Keziah was a fairly common name about the time Keziah was born. The marriage date for Joseph and Keziah probably isn't correct. I would have to check but I think that is a birth date.
As I said in my previous post, the lines were changing back and forth during this time from NC/Va. I don't really think the family moved (if very far). There are NO documents except the one marriage May 20, 1840 of Mary Elizabeth to Richard Worthan. By 1844, Martha Jane married George Washington Hall in Polk County, Missouri.
And of course the 1840 census you quote. There are several Joseph Abbott's in this area but no one has connected them for sure by any document....lots of guesses and "thinks" but no proofs.

I truly think from my research that Joseph of Halifax is the same Joseph with Benjamin and Armisted in Stokes County, NC but is he MY Joseph...I don't know. One research connected Joseph Abbott to ? Petty (have the name in my notes) but I never have seen the marriage document to prove that...it is on Family Search and Ancestry.
