I am needing help in finding more information about my great great grandfather, Charles Alexander Pabst. He was born in Saxony Wc, Germany May 5, 1842. According to later census records, he arrived in the U.S. in 1862. I do not know which port or ship though. I suspect through NY because I found a C.A. Pabst in some military records. I believe he fought for the Union during the Civil War. I have found him in Hays County, Texas during the 1890 Veteran schedule with a leg injury. From what my great aunt has told me, she remembers him being in a wheelchair, but he never said what put him in the wheelchair. Some of my family and I believe he never spoke of being in the Civil War because he had fought for the Union, then moved down south into Texas. But that's all just speculation. After he arrived, the next place I located him was in Burnet County, Texas in 1873 where he married Emily Davis according to marriage records. During the 1880 census, he was still living in Burnet County. In 1886, he married his second wife in Lampasas County, Texas, my great great grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth Tow. (She's a whole other issue altogether. LOL) Like I said, I found him in 1890 in the Veteran Schedules, but also in the Texas Census. By 1900, he had moved to Llano County, Texas, 1910 back to Burnet County, Texas, where he died in 1918.
I am trying to research his military background and also possibly find a naturalization record and a record of which port or place he arrived through. I have not been able to locate him in an 1870 census. And how do I find out more information on his life and family in Germany. According to his death certificate, his father's name was Frederick Pabst. He was also born in Saxony, Germany.
Thanks for all your help!
